Soon Indian Railway is going to connect the New Delhi with Ladakh which is going to the world highest railway line along Indo-China Border. The National Transporter is planning to make strategically important Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line. The first phase of the location survey has already been completed.

Indian Railway soon building the world’s Highest Railway- line:

Railway has proposed it to be declared a national project. It is the most difficult project undertaken by the Indian railway till the date. The rail line will have 30 stations between New Delhi to Ladakh, and it is about 465 km long. Approximate 52% of the journey will be covered with tunnels. The estimated cost to build this 465 km rail-line project will be Rs 83,360 crore.

The Bilaspur-Manali-Leh railway line would be the highest railway tracks in the world when complete. At its highest point, the tracks would be at 5,360 meters above sea level. It is comparable only to the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Line in China, which is at a height of around 2,000 meters above sea level.

The route will connect important locations between Bilaspur and Leh like Sundernagar, Mandi, Manali, Keylong, Koksar, Darcha, Upshi and Karu and other important towns of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. This project also hopes to boost tourism in the Ladakh-Himachal region, which is currently connected only by road and air.

 It will reduce the distance between Delhi AND Leh, which is presently 40 hours, to 20 hours.

According to the first phase of the survey, trains traversing this route will be met with 74 tunnels, 124 major bridges, and 396 minor bridges. The longest tunnel will reportedly be 27 km long, and the total lengths of the tunnels will be 244 km.
